Why Feed Sunflower Seeds and Hearts to your Garden Birds

Sunflower seeds and hearts are a great addition to your wild birds’ natural diet, and although they should be fed year-round, autumn is the perfect time to harness a little flower power as our feathered friends prepare for the colder weather ahead.

Let’s take a closer look at both hearts and seeds, and their key  benefits:

Sunflower Hearts

Husks are removed so easy for the birds to eat

Shell-free seeds attract a wider variety of birds

Less mess in the garden and less likely to attract pests

Packed with nutrition and calories – rich in oil and protein

Can be fed in sunflower heart feeder, from bird table or on the ground

 Sunflower Seeds

Packed with important nutrients such as iron, magnesium and vitamins A, B, C and D

Can only be eaten by birds able to de-shell them such as finches.

Hardier in wet or really cold weather as the shell protects the seed inside

Encourages wild birds to access food in the most natural way possible

High calorie and rich in protein and oil

Can be popped in a feeder, or put out on the ground or on a bird table
