Making a difference with species specific feeds

Offering species specific food in your garden make a really big difference to the variety of birds you attract and the frequency with which they visit.

Here’s how it benefits your outside environment:

A greater variety of species

Birds have quite a few differences in beak shape, feeding styles and nutritional needs.

Nyjer seeds will attract Goldfinch and Siskin

Peanuts in a feeder – never a net – are loved by Great Tit, Blue Tit and Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Sunflower hearts – are popular with most birds, but especially Greenfinch.

Mealworms – attract Robins, Blackbirds and Wrens

Suet feeds – are great for woodpeckers, tits and thrushes.

Cuts bullying at feeders

Large, pushier birds can dominate feeders when general seed mixes are used. Instead, create a safe zone for smaller, shyer birds by using different types of feeders, placing food at different heights and don’t forget ground feeding areas.
