Keeping your feeders clean and healthy

14 Sep 2025

Ensuring that your feeders and bird tables remain scrupulously clean is really important throughout the year, as it helps to avoid the spread of disease among our wild bird communities.

Here are some handy tips to keep your feeding equipment squeaky clean for happy and healthy garden birds.

1 – If possible, it is always best to clean feeders and tables outside. Put on some gloves, remove left-over food and pop it into the bin.

2 – Fill a bucket with hot, soapy water and using a brush, scrub away any caked on food and debris.

3 – Rinse with cold water and spread with a bird-friendly disinfectant, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

4 – Rinse again, then leave the table and feeders to dry overnight. In the morning, refill with fresh food. You will discover an extensive selection on our website, designed to cater for a wide range of feeding preferences.

Adopting this responsible ‘clean-first’ approach to feeding will help our birds to not only survive, but thrive in often challenging conditions.
