Peanuts are a great way to attract an array of wild bird species to your garden. They are high in energy and a valuable source of oil for birds.
You can buy whole peanuts (without the shells) and these should be fed from a suitable mesh feeder and are the most popular way to feed the birds. They also come granulated, these are already chopped and can be fed from a seed feeder which can appeal to a different variety of birds or in their shells and these can be as they are and the birds will spend hours opening the shells to peck at the nuts inside.

Peanut Granules

Peanut granules are a particular favourite with most birds, a readily available high source of protein.

They can also be known as kibbled peanuts, peanut chips or peanut hearts.

Granulated peanuts are easier to eat than whole peanuts they therefore appeal to all garden birds not just those who can hang for longer from the feeder.

Peanut granules can be fed from a seed feeder, or from a bird table. (See feeders section for Seed feeders)

Peanuts in shells

Pine Nuts

Pine nuts are the perfect natural food ideal for feeding Red and Grey Squirrels and some larger seed eating pet birds like parrots & macaws.
Pine nuts are seeds from pine cones and are not a nut as the name suggests.

These pine nuts come in their shells, a hard outer shell that squirrels and parrots live to crack open to get to the delicious seed inside.
